The pattern was revived for one year in 1979 to mark the 100th anniversary of Woolworth’s. Harlequin proved very popular and sold throughout the 1950's. Official records indicate the line was discontinued in 1964. Woolworth offered a reissue of Herlequin from 1979 to 1982. The newer issue utilized turquoise, coral, yellow and a variation on medium green.
As with all dinnerware, many of the buyers are individuals who are enhancing or replacing broken pieces of an inherited set. Homer Laughlin introduced Fiesta, designed by Rhead, in 1936, phasing out the line in 1973. New colors were used, and pieces were dishwasher safe and microwavable. Harlequin arrived on the scene in 1938, and a less expensive alternative to Fiesta was made and sold in Woolworth’s. It has a distinctive triple scalloped edge. Riviera production ended near the end of 1948 or early 1949.

The company excelled at the Centennial Exposition of 1876 in Philadelphia where they were recognized with an award for the best white-ware on display. In 1879, Shakespeare sold his interest in the pottery to his brother, and Homer ran the business for more than two decades until he eventually sold it to a group of investors. The company’s then-bookkeeper William E. Wells along with Louis Aaron and his sons, Charles and Marcus, assumed ownership in 1897. I know its a bit rare, but I was wondering if you knew anything about this one.
I have some of the accessories that go with it as well. Can you give me an idea how to seel them, and or how much can I sell the set for. Homer Laughlin launched their Vintage Fiesta pottery line at the beginning of the 1936 and it proved an instant senstation.
Colors in this pattern are ivory, light green, yellow, red, and a medium blue referenced as mauve-blue. Fiestaware was introduced in 1936 by the Homer Laughlin China Company. Fiestaware was redesigned in 1969 and was withdrawn from the market in 1973.
This confusion is compounded because the name Virginia Rose appears in the mark on many of these pieces. I have an 11 place setting fiesta ware in the rose color. I bought them from an elder woman, and she had said the had them for about 30 years. I have thought about selling them, but I have no idea what to price each piece at.
I have an ivory milk pitcher that was used by my great grandmother. It has the HL logo above Homer Laughlin on the bottom. Hi– have a glass, bowl and plate in the Fiesta Noah’s Ark design. A mark exists for almost every pattern and body shape. Homer Laughlin did make special commission pieces. Some, like the Red Knute Rockne of Notre Dame football statue or a University of Pennsylvania stein, command premium prices.
Fiestaware was reissued in 1986 and still being produced today. These pieces where in different colors from the original line of Fiestaware. Fiestaware cups had full circle handles until 1969, when partial circle handles were introduced.
The firm made whiteware, an ironstone utilitarian ceramic form. The business continued at Homer Laughlin China Works. In 1889, William Edwin Wells joined the firm. In 1896, Laughlin and Wells incorporated the firm as the Homer Laughlin China Company.
